En tant que Tish, chanteuse glamour intrépide et femme d’affaires moderne, elle était faite pour les soirées new-yorkaises des années 80, regorgeant de dangereux attraits dont la notoriété dont elle était accro. Heureusement, grâce au soutien de ses ami·e·s dont l’impertinente et chaleureuse Gloria et le journaliste et ancien chroniqueur du Village Voice, Michael Musto, à l’amour de son mari actuel (le « capitaine » de leur bateau dont il est « les voiles déployées »), et à sa ténacité, Brian a le vent dans les voiles. Ressemblant à un vidéo amateur des années 80 rempli de flous artistiques, de bris du quatrième mur et d’aller-retour entre le passé et le présent, ce documentaire nous raconte l’histoire d’un jeune homme gai efféminé devenu femme fatale. Maintenant d’âge mûr, Brian réfléchit sur ce que Tish a pu contribuer à sa vie et à son identité.
With the hardscrabble biography of a “real Hedwig” and an astrological chart close to Janis Joplin’s, Brian Belovitch’s life was poised to end tragically. As Tish – a cross between a dizzyingly glamourous chanteuse and modern career woman, who was made for the 80s New York club scene – life was full of dangerous addictions, including fame, her drug of choice. However, thanks to the support of friends along the way like the brassy, open-hearted Gloria and journalist and former Village Voice columnist Michael Musto, as well as the love of his current husband (the “rudder” to his ship that’s “all sail”) and his own tenacity, Brian is thriving. Styled like an 80s home video with its in and out focus, this fourth-wall-breaking documentary struts back and forth through the decades from the 70s until today, bringing us the story of an effeminate gay boy turned female bombshell who, later in life, is figuring out what type of man he can be; all the while reflecting on the invaluable gifts that Tish has given him.
