Shura is a young working mother in a remote village in Russia. Her husband is admitted to a psychiatric hospital with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. Shura is told that he will never be the same again and that there is no hope. The woman tries to change her fate, but it is difficult because she is under the constant oppression of her mother-in-law with whom she lives. Shura will have to decide whether to remain faithful to the husband she no longer loves and who has made her suffer or seek a new life opportunity.
