Science communication researchers have been studying a variety of topics such as audience engagement, science curiosity, social impact, and visualization best practices. The science communication practice community, including filmmakers, has years of practical experience with best practices in the field, knowledge of gaps and resources, and so on. However, these two communities have been mostly disconnected from each other, leading to a lack of information exchange and collaboration between the two. In this panel, we will learn from researchers and filmmakers who have found ways to bridge this gap and connect research to practice. We will learn about their successes, challenges, and perspectives.
