Showcasing footage from around the world after an unprecedented year, “The Year Earth Changed” is a timely documentary special that takes a fresh new approach to the global lockdown and the uplifting stories that have come out of it.

From hearing birdsong in deserted cities and seeing whales in Glacier Bay, to meeting capybara in suburbs across South America, people worldwide have had the chance to engage with nature like never before. In this documentary special, the sound post production team Re-Recording mixer Richard Lambert, Dubbing Editors Roy Noy James Burchill and Foley team Rich Hinton and Jon Cawte faced the challenge of creating a soundscape that has possibly not been done before. New York and San Francisco with no traffic, Japanese tourist hot spot with no tourists. We had to take a very minimalist approach to how this should sound ,White crowned sparrows that sing a slightly different song, Hump Back whales that communicate differently and Jack Ass penguins that move into towns.

Scientific advisors provided the editorial team with new species recordings that reflected their new behaviors. The team managed to source ambient wildtracks from various locations around the world that were true recordings of a world with very little noise pollution. Intergrating all of this into a very immersive score provided by the Skinner Bros. Along with narration provided by Sir David Attenborough. Using Dolby Atmos provided an opportunity to immerse the viewing audience into a very different sonic world.
