She runs a small Berlin bookstore specializing in Judaica and volunteers at a Jewish retirement home, helping a Holocaust survivor publicize his memoir. At a party one evening, awkward Anne meets Daniel, a newly single gynecologist just venturing back into dating. Instantly wise to Anne’s pseudo-Semitism, he impulsively feigns being Jewish to impress her, a harmless enough ploy until he develops real romantic feelings. With Anne’s entire life tied to her faux identity, Daniel is compelled to exit the hole he’s dug for himself.
