ALL ON A MARDI GRAS DAY
In a gentrifying New Orleans, Demond sacrifices to be Big Chief in a secret 200-year culture known as Mardi Gras Indians: African-American men from the city’s roughest neighborhoods who spend all year sewing feathered suits they will wear only once, in a battle to decide who’s “the prettiest.”
HOW GREAT THOU ART
Elvis Presley's friends and family give testimony to the singer's love of spiritual music. Featuring interviews with Billy Blackwood, Donna Presley, T.G. Sheppard, and members of the Stamps Quartet.
LESLIE'S GIFT
A man visiting his parents grave with his sister, reminiscing about their childhood, is surprised by her unexpected gift of forgiveness.
A SYRIAN WOMAN
After nearly a decade of conflict, Syrian refugee women by the thousands lost their families and husbands. Now they must provide for their children, alone and in an unfamiliar country. We follow eight women's experiences – from displacement, child-marriage and trauma to their resilience and hope to build a better future for their children.
CHERAN: A BURNING HOPE
Cherán, a small indigenous community in the Mexican state of Michoacán, kicked out the local drug cartels and refused to accept government corruption. In April 2011, its people set out on a path toward self-rule. Yunuen Torres, a local activist and community radio host, has made it her mission to record oral histories that recall Cherán’s tumultuous past and inspire the next generation to uphold all that her community fought for. Cherán’s experiment in self-governance appears to be working, and other indigenous communities are taking up the mantle of self-government.
VIEWFINDER
Every day for the past 23 years, Michael has taken a picture with a film camera. Each image – more than 8,000 and counting – carries special meaning. He has never shown anyone the pictures, which are organized by date and stored in suitcases and plastic containers at his Minnesota farm. As he is starting to lose his memory, he ponders his obsession and wonders: Who will care when he’s gone?
THE VEIL REMOVED
The coming together of heaven and earth at Mass, as seen by saints and mystics, revealed by scripture and in the catechism of the Catholic Church.
