Ada - My Mother the Architect is a deeply moving and personal documentary portrait of the acclaimed Israeli architect Ada Karmi-Melamede, one of the most accomplished female architects in the world, directed by her filmmaker daughter Yael Melamede. The film offers an intimate exploration of the tension between a demanding career and motherhood, and the complex relationship between a daughter seeking connection and a mother more comfortable discussing her profession than her personal life.

The documentary delves into the life and work of Ada Karmi-Melamede, whose designs have given physical form to Israel's democratic ideals in landmark buildings such as the Supreme Court of Israel building in Jerusalem, The Open University, and the Ben Gurion Airport. Against the backdrop of a turbulent nation and a changing political landscape, the film explores profound questions of "place" and "home" through the lens of an artist dedicated to a socially oriented architecture. It's a unique dual narrative that celebrates Karmi-Melamede's significant professional achievements while also presenting an honest look at the personal sacrifices she made, including her decision to leave her family in New York to pursue a career-defining opportunity back in Israel.

Yael Melamede is an award-winning filmmaker and former architect who is interested in the intersection of storytelling, people, and design. She is the co-founder of SALTY Features, a New York-based production company whose films have received both Emmy and Academy Awards. Her recent credits include Ada: My Mother the Architect; Death & Taxes; Emmy-nominated Floyd Abrams: Speaking Freely, Pay or Die, Emmy-winner When I Walk, and the Oscar-winning Inocente.
