Gina Sobel is a natural improviser. A virtuoso on multiple instruments (flute, sax, voice), she exudes energy and excitement in her live performances and is sought after as a soloist with national and international performers.

In her own music, Gina combines diverse genres to unite elements of funk, jazz and American folk music into a fresh and compelling sound. In 2018, she completed both the Strathmore Artist in Residence program and the Virginia Folklife Apprenticeship, where she studied traditional Sephardic music with Susan Gaeta. Gina and Susan lead a Sephardic fusion band called Minnush.

Sobel’s set will be infused with contemporary interpretations of traditional Sephardic music—trading in the nylon string guitar for the stratocaster, with a strong likelihood of live-looped flute.

Your Pay-What-You-Choose ticket includes access to an artist conversation with Gina Sobel, led by Seth Kibel, which will automatically play after the show.
