Film Director Lydia Dean Pilcher, actor Linus Roache, and writter, producer and actor Sarah Megan Thomas discuss A Call to Spy.

Lydia Dean Pilcher is an American film and television producer and founder of Cine Mosaic, a New York based production company focused on entertaining stories driven by themes of female empowerment, social conscience, and multi-cultural perception. Cine Mosaic specializes in international co-productions and movies based on studio and independent models, with business partners in the US, Europe, India, Turkey, Africa and the Middle East. Pilcher has produced over 35 feature films, most recently Disney’s Queen of Katwe (dir: Mira Nair), The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (dir: George Wolfe), and the upcoming feature, Radium Girls, which she produced and co-directed with Ginny Mohler. She is currently producing, Two Brothers with award-winning Iranian director, Bahman Ghobadi. Pilcher is a two time Emmy Award winner and was nominated for an Academy Award.


Linus Roache began his acting career with a two-week appearance as a young Barlow on Coronation Street (1960) at the age of 11. He also played a boy with the bubonic plague in The Onedin Line (1971). He spent much of the next two decades on stage. In 1986 he had brief appearances in a few films, including Link (1986). He was brought to attention in 1994 after appearing in the BBC TV series Seaforth (1994).


Sarah Megan Thomas is an award-winning actress, producer, and writer. For her latest feature, “A Call To Spy,” Sarah wrote the screenplay, produced, and plays legendary spy Virginia Hall. The film won numerous awards on the festival circuit, including an Audience Choice Award, and the ADL “Stand Up” award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. IFC Films acquired “A Call To Spy” for a 2020 release. Sarah’s previous film was the groundbreaking “Equity,” in which she created the concept, co-wrote the story, produced, and starred.

A CALL TO SPY

In the beginning of WWII, with Britain becoming desperate, Churchill orders his new spy agency–“SOE”–to recruit and train women as spies. Their daunting mission: conduct sabotage and build a resistance.SOE’s “Spymistress,” Vera Atkins (StanaKatic)recruits two unusual candidates: Virginia Hall(SarahMegan Thomas), an ambitious American with a wooden leg, and Noor Inayat Khan (played by RadhikaApte), a Muslim pacifist. Together, these women help to undermine the Nazi regime in France, leavingan unmistakable legacyin their wake. Inspired by true stories, thisoriginal screenplaydraws on SOE, OSS(pre-cursor to CIA), and CIA files, as well as interviews with living relatives.
