Nikola Tesla (Ethan Hawke) is a brilliant European-born inventor who wants to change the world with his creations. To bring his revolutionary electrical system to fruition, he partners with fellow scientist Thomas Edison (Kyle MacLachlan), but grows increasingly frustrated by the American’s greed. The story of Tesla and the legendary “Current War” is told by his associate Anne Morgan (Eve Hewson), offering a distinctly modern voice in this scientific historical drama.

MICHAEL ALMEREYDA - Writer, Director, Producer


Michael is an award-winning filmmaker who has garnered acclaim for his prolific and varied body of work. Marjorie Prime, based on Jordan Harrison’s Pulitzer-nominated play, premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and was awarded the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize. His film, Experimenter, premiered at Sundance in 2015, and his film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Cymbeline, premiered at the 2014 Venice Film Festival. Hamlet is Almereyda's most well-known film, with Ethan Hawke in the title role and Kyle MacLachlan as ‘Claudius.’


Almereyda’s writing has appeared in The New York Times, Film Comment, Artforum, and booklets for The Criterion Collection. He has taught filmmaking and screenwriting at Harvard, NYU, and CalArts, and served as an advisor for the Sundance Institute directing labs in the U.S., Jordan, Brazil and, Greece. He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship for Film/Video, a Creative Capital Award, and six fellowships from the MacDowell Colony.

Pete is currently the Chief Film Critic for Deadline Hollywood. For the past 9 years he has also been Awards Editor and Columnist for Deadline where he covers the Oscar and Emmy Seasons. He came to Deadline from the Los Angeles Times where he covered the awards seasons for The Envelope and LA Times.com. He is widely considered to be one of the pre-eminent awards season analysts for film and television.
