Eddie Palmer (Justin Timberlake) is a former college football star whose professional career was shattered when he went to prison. When he returns to his hometown to put his life back together, he finds his grandmother caring for a neighbor’s child. The seven-year-old boy has been abandoned by his mother and doesn’t fit into the rigid expectations of his rural home. Palmer forms an unlikely friendship with the outcast boy, Sam, and meets and starts a relationship with his teacher, Maggie (Alisha Wainwright). But Eddie's past threatens to ruin his new life and family.
Q&A with Academy Award-winning director Fisher Stevens, and screenwriter Cheryl Guerriero

FISHER STEVENS | Director
Fisher has been in the entertainment business for almost 40 years. His versatility in the industry is evident from his wide range of credits from acting, producing and directing in feature films, television, and theater. Political and environmental activism has been an important focus of his work. He recently directed We Go Green, a documentary about the electric car racing series Formula E, the environmental documentary, Before the Flood, produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, and the 2010 Academy Award-winning Best Documentary Feature, The Cove.
His Hollywood directing credits include the sensation Tiger King, the Emmy-nominated Mission Blue,
the 2008 Independent Spirit Award-winning Best Documentary Crazy Love, the feature Stand Up Guys, starring Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin, and John Leguizamo’s Ghetto Klown.
As an actor, Stevens has been seen in numerous Broadway shows, television series and movies. His TV credits include The Blacklist, The Good Fight, Lost, and Friends. Film work includes the Coen brothers’ Hail, Caesar!, Motherless Brooklyn and a trio of Wes Anderson films, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle of Dogs and The French Dispatch. He also currently holds a regular acting role on the Golden Globe Award-winning series, Succession.
CHERYL GUERRIERO | Screenwriter
Upon Guerriero’s graduation from college, her mother insisted she get a job at Prudential Life Insurance company and get married. Guerriero promptly moved to New York City and came out as both a writer and a lesbian. After Guerriero received her first check for writing, her mother got off her back about getting a real job. In 2006, she received her first produced screenplay credit with National Lampoon’s Pledge This!
Guerriero stepped into the publishing world with her debut suspense novel, Girl on Point. In 2019, Italian film producer Aurelio De Laurentiis snatched up the movie rights and hired Guerriero to adapt her novel for the big screen, and it is slated to go into production this year. In addition to writing, Guerriero directed and produced the documentary short My Best Kept Secret.

Pete is currently the Chief Film Critic for Deadline Hollywood. For the past 9 years he has also been Awards Editor and Columnist for Deadline where he covers the Oscar and Emmy Seasons. He came to Deadline from the Los Angeles Times where he covered the awards seasons for The Envelope and LA Times.com. He is widely considered to be one of the pre-eminent awards season analysts for film and television.
