The true story of the Mighty Mites, the scrawny football team of an orphanage who went from playing without shoes—or even a football—to playing for the Texas state championships and inspiring their city, state, and an entire nation during the Great Depression. The architect of their success was a legendary high school coach and man with a mysterious past, Rusty Russell (Luke Wilson). Also stars Oscar-winner Robert Duvall, Martin Sheen, Vinessa Shaw, Wayne Knight, Jake Austin Walker, and Treat Williams.

LUKE WILSON | Actor


Luke Wilson is one of the most versatile actors of his generation with his indelible performances in broad comedies, thoughtful dramas, and provocative independent features. His film credits include Wes Anderson’s Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, and The Royal Tenenbaums; The Skeleton Twins opposite Bill Hader and Kristin Wiig; Old School with Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn; Legally Blonde; Charlie's Angels; Blades of Glory; Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, 3:10 to Yuma; and the heartwarming film, My Dog Skip. He recently starred in All The Bright Places, opposite Elle Fanning, and in Atom Egoyan’s feature film, Guest Of Honour.

 

TY ROBERTS | Writer/Director


12 Mighty Orphans is Ty’s second feature film, his previous directing project was the award-winning film, The Iron Orchard. He has produced and directed a variety of awarded documentaries, music videos, short films and other branded content. For many years Ty resided in Argentina where he produced and developed projects for Walt Disney Studios, Paramount Pictures, United Artists, National Geographic and Discovery Channel. He is currently working on The Falcon Thief, adapted from the acclaimed book about an egg thief known as the Pablo Escobar of the rare raptor egg trade, as well as a story based on the famed outlaws Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid during their final years in Patagonia. 












PETE HAMMOND | Host of the KCET Cinema Series


Pete is currently the Chief Film Critic for Deadline Hollywood. For the past 9 years he has also been Awards Editor and Columnist for Deadline where he covers the Oscar and Emmy Seasons. He came to Deadline from the Los Angeles Times where he covered the awards seasons for The Envelope and LA Times.com. He is widely considered to be one of the pre-eminent awards season analysts for film and television.

Michele Garza is Senior Director of Special Events for KCET and PBS SoCal, both content channels of the Public Media Group of Southern California.
