The winner of two awards at the 2019 Busan International Film Festival, this semi-autobiographical comedy stars Kang Mal-geum as a 40-year-old movie producer who finds herself in a crisis when the director she works for suddenly dies. Jobless, broke, and virtually unemployable, she moves in with a cranky old lady (the always wonderful Youn Yuh-jung, currently starring in Minari), takes a job cleaning house for an ambitious young actress, and tries to take stock of her life with the help of the ghost of the legendary Hong Kong actor Leslie Cheung. Director Kim Cho-hee previously worked as a producer for the acclaimed filmmaker Hong Sang-soo (the fact that she kills off the Hong-inspired character in the film’s very first scene says something about how she feels about working for him). Her directorial debut is an amusing and poignant story about pursuing one’s dreams, no matter your stage in life.
