Kim Tai-sik (Tokyo TaxiDriving with My Wife’s Lover) directed this remake of the 1992 Japanese comedy Hit-and-Run Family. The Mapalad clan has spent years building a successful life in Korea, and they are now preparing to move back to the Philippines. But their plans are derailed when the father (Nonie Buencamino) is involved in a drunken hit-and-run accident. To cover his crime, the mother (Nonie’s real-life wife Shamaine Buencamino) embarks on an audacious plan to rebuild the damaged car, Ship of Theseus style, in their living room, all the while trying to outwit their nosy neighbors and the policeman who is dating their daughter. Disaster after hilarious disaster ensues in this broad comedy that also offers a rare window into immigrant life in Korea.
