First released in 2001, Zacharias Kunuk’s epic drama was not just a landmark achievement for Canadian film but Indigenous cinema worldwide. KCFF is thrilled to present this retrospective presentation to commemorate the 20th anniversary of a work that retains all its power to astonish and enthrall viewers with its story of an Inuit community in the ancient past which is riven by animosity and betrayal. The first feature to ever be entirely written, directed and performed in the Inuktitut language, it won the Camera d’Or for best first feature at Cannes before winning six Genie Awards. In 2015, it was voted the greatest Canadian film of all time at TIFF. KCFF is equally proud to present Kunuk’s latest film in this year’s edition: ANGAKUSAJAUJUQ: THE SHAMAN’S APPRENTICE, a stunning animated short he created with many of his same collaborators on ATANARJUAT.

Please note: this is a retrospective screening and not open for voting.
