There’s no shortage of wit, warmth and wisdom in Zoe Hopkins’ immensely engaging comedy-drama about a single mother in Six Nations who receives some help from an unusual source in her efforts to get her life on track. The lead performance by Dakota Ray Hebert is one major source of the film’s appeal. She stars as Beck, a woman who can’t find a way out of her bad habits until she finds a running coach in Tom Longboat (Braeden Clarke), a legendary Odondaga marathon champ who also happens to be a ghost. A terrific turn by Lorne Cardinal as Beck’s dad adds further richness to Hopkins’ light-hearted tale of recovery, resilience and forging a way forward.
