On Edgecombe Avenue in Sugar Hill, Harlem, Marjorie Eliot is making sure her apartment building’s iconic jazz legacy lives on. Marjorie and her son have been hosting jazz concerts in her apartment every Sunday for the past 26 years, a pursuit of overcoming grief through music. This film tells the story of the women behind the piano, and how Marjorie’s generous vision came to be and the life it has taken on since, as she leaves behind her own legacy.

Sundays at The Triple Nickel

Sitting by a Bodega at Halsey St subway, Mike ”Whisper” Covert gets by on the compassion of strangers. A vagrant boxer and ex-prisoner, he is jobless and struggling on the streets. After dark, Whisper uses the lights and warmth of the New York City subway as a gym to teach young men the sport of boxing. Taking on the role of a mentor, he offers emotional guidance to his prodigies, who confide their teenage troubles to him.

Cinema Rules Everything Around Me

About to retire, the cantor of a small reform Jewish synagogue in Brooklyn, NY, mounts a production of the "Brooklyn Baseball Cantata," a largely forgotten musical oddity from 1940. Composed by George Kleinsinger with lyrics by Michael Stratton, the operetta imagines a moment when Brooklynites awake from a borough-wide slumber to share a dream that their beloved Brooklyn Dodgers finally beat The New York Yankees, their arch-rivals from the Bronx, in a World Series. "The Cantor's Last Cantata," follows the amateur choir members as they rehearse, kibbutz, nosh Entenmanns and perform for the congregation.
