Naharina means ‘people of the river’, the name given by ancient Egyptians to the peoples who lived near the Euphrates and Khabur rivers, in what is now North East Syria.
Using the deep history of the peoples of Mesopotamia as a foundation, this film explores the communal roots which have led to the birth of a revolutionary political and social system in the region.
In particular, the film examines the communes, which promote grassroots democratic participation; the cooperatives, which organize work and wealth in a horizontal way; the women's houses, which contribute to the liberation and autonomy of women, and, finally, the internal security forces, which have introduced community thought into a situation of instability in the country.
