EMPTY METAL reveals a political fantasy, an alternative reality whose characters teeter on the dull knife edge that is contemporary American politics, but they refuse to fall right or left. Instead, they lash out from the soul, and under the radar, in an attempt to achieve what their mainstream predecessors have yet to accomplish.

EMPTY METAL is a war movie without a war, a nightmare you are ashamed to admit was actually a dream.

Bayley Sweitzer is a filmmaker based in Brooklyn. His practice revolves around a dynamic, high-mobility engagement with the margins, as well as taking an earnest look at the chronomorphic qualities of narrative, specifically the camera's ability to consolidate dimensions. His work has been shown at Film Society Lincoln Center, Anthology Film Archives, Pacific Film Archive, Motel Gallery (Brooklyn), Other Cinema (San Francisco) and MIIT House (Osaka). Bayley works professionally as a camera assistant and is a member of the International Cinematographers Guild, IATSE Local 600.

For Tulsa, OK Audiences:

Empty Metal will be available at a discount specially for Tulsa, Oklahoma audiences. This is an introduction of Mizna film programming to Tulsa audiences in anticipation of the Arab Film Fest, Tulsa edition happening fall 2021. Empty Metal's indigenous through-lines and co-director Khalil's background make this screening an especially relevant touchpoint to Tulsa in light of Oklahoma's Native history and contemporary life. Curated by Mizna, hosted by local indie film hub Circle Cinema, and supported by the Tulsa Artist Fellowship, this project comes through TAF Fellow and Mizna friend/former staff member Moheb Soliman, who will continue to make Tulsa connections with the film series and coordinate the fall festival. Look out for news!
