Eighty years after the tragic summer of 1942, when Antwerp authorities assisted the German occupiers in the arrest and deportation of over 10,000 Jews—only 500 of whom would survive—the city’s painful past resurfaces through the eyes of its youth. A group of sixth-form students from a super-diverse school embarks on a journey to uncover this long-suppressed history, connecting with descendants of both the victims and the collaborators. For these young people, the events of the past are not their own, yet they resonate profoundly, challenging them to confront the legacies of complicity and memory. This fascinating film weaves past and present with unflinching clarity, illuminating underexplored traumas and prompting audiences to reckon with history’s enduring impact.
