Ringside in the Mountains unearths the remarkable, long-overlooked story of how a quiet stretch of the Catskills became a powerhouse training ground for generations of boxing greats. Decades before Cus D’Amato molded a young Mike Tyson in Catskill, prizefighters were already flocking to the region—not for fame, but for focus.

From the 1930s through the 1990s, the famed Borscht Belt resorts—Grossinger’s, Kutsher’s, the Pines, the Concord, and others—transformed into summer sanctuaries where champions honed their craft while vacationers looked on between poolside cocktails and late-night comedy shows. For fighters, it offered ideal conditions and seclusion; for the press, a quick escape upstate; for guests, an unexpected front-row seat to boxing history in the making.

Through rare archival footage, vivid photographs, and candid interviews with boxers, journalists, and historians, this documentary transports viewers back to a golden era when grit and glamour mingled in the mountain air. Ringside in the Mountains not only resurrects a forgotten chapter of American sports—it illuminates how this unlikely training haven helped shape the evolution of the Sweet Science, leaving a legacy that still echoes across today’s Catskills.
