Salem Film Fest (SFF) is the largest documentary film festival in Massachusetts and presents one of the most diverse slates of international documentaries in New England, with screenings in Salem, Beverly and Peabody, Massachusetts.

The 13th edition of SFF was scheduled to take place in March, but we decided to indefinitely postpone the event just 9 days before opening night due to COVID-19. The powerful documentary Mossville, was originally slated to be our Opening Night presentation at the Peabody Essex Museum. We are now presenting the film here, in partnership with the filmmakers, as an online fundraiser for the festival.

This presentation of Mossville is supported by sponsorships from Salem Recycles, Historic Salem, Inc. and our Silver Producer festival sponsor the Peabody Essex Museum. SFF is presented by Salem Community Arts Center, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Mossville, Louisiana: A once-thriving community founded by formerly enslaved and free people of color, and an economically flourishing safe haven for generations of African American families. Today it’s a breeding ground for petrochemical plants and their toxic black clouds. Many residents are forced from their homes, and those that stay suffer from prolonged exposure to contamination and pollution. Amid this chaos and injustice stands one man who refuses to abandon his family’s land - and his community. Twitter: @MossvilleDoc // Instagram: @MossvilleFilm // Facebook: @MossvilleProject
