The 2023 Mother Tongue Film Festival saw a return to in-person events after two years of virtual programming. Reflecting on this homecoming, the theme of the eighth festival focused on the return of people and objects to their origins, inviting viewers to contemplate what makes a home and what fuels our strong emotional connection to our homes. El Festival de Cine de la Lengua Materna de 2023 volvió a ser un evento presencial después de dos años de programación virtual. Reflexionando sobre este regreso a casa, el tema del octavo festival anual se centró en el regreso de personas y objetos a sus orígenes, invitando al público a contemplar qué constituye un hogar y qué alimenta nuestra fuerte conexión emocional con nuestros hogares. Disfruta de tres maravillosas películas de 2023: Night Raiders, New York, Just Another City y Vaychiletik (Dreams).
Through his dreams, José received a gift from the gods—a gift that brings consequences. Now that he is at a mature age in life, José would like to rest, but he is not allowed. Vaychiletik explores this fierce yet beautiful reality, forged from the dreams of the Maya people of Mexico.
A través de sus sueños, José recibió un don otorgado por los dioses. Un regalo que trae consecuencias. Ahora que está en una edad madura en la vida, a José le gustaría descansar, pero no se le permite. Vaychiletik explora esta realidad feroz pero hermosa, forjada a partir de los sueños del pueblo maya de México.
