Recognizing that the economic disparities resulting from privilege and exacerbated by the pandemic are a barrier to engagement, in 2021, NDHRFF has completely removed financial barriers to engage with the festival. As a result, access to the festival's programming is entirely free and accessible to all. All passes and individual film screenings are pay-as-you-can. Camp Pekiwewin was a ceremonial site for the house-less community in Edmonton that lasted from July - November 2020.
Among the many aims were to provide refuge and challenge the municipality that acknowledges treaty and Indigenous communities in council, but consistently denies and erases Indigenous peoples' title to occupy their territories.
