Laurence and Olivier, a retired couple thriving only by the Sunday dance rock competition, have to step up their game when the bank cuts their line of credit, and the competition's grand prize—a brand new SUV—becomes their only way out of an inevitable bankruptcy. In this desperate and absurd quest, they cross paths with a crooked politician and an emancipated teenager, where their stories collide like in a twisted, and socially charged reinterpretation of Altman’s Short Cuts. Meurisse doesn’t sugar coat his discourse, creating a surreal narrative of discomfort where his detestable characters surprisingly grab our interests. A must see for fans of dark humor, or an audience curious about its boundaries. Also makes for a great pairing with the other out-there and fucked up comedy from western Europe, Mother Schmuckers.
