A New Beginning opens with a flashback to winter of 2015 in a Copenhagen train station. Wheelchair-bound Rabeaa and his four-year-old son, Kais, have arrived from Syria. They are thrust into a new and foreign world with nothing but each other. First-time feature documentarian, Danish-Iraqi director Ala’a Mohsen, captures this moment and follows them through their first years of building a new life in Norway. Calm, patient, and persistent, Rabeaa overcomes language and cultural barriers, leg and spinal injuries, and the struggles of a single parent with an unwavering determination to create a sense of belonging and a brighter future for his son. Never forgetting where they come from, he recalls their life in Syria and their journey to their new one in tender stories.
