A Conversation with Ukrainian Filmmaker Kateryna Gornostai on World-Building, the War, and the Next Generation
Meet Kateryna Gornostai, a Ukrainian filmmaker whose first feature Stop-Zemlia won the Crystal Bear Award at Berlinale for its nuanced and authentic portrait of adolescence. This conversation will offer a window into the unconventional process of world building, trust and vulnerability Kateryna created with her teenage cast - a generation unafraid to test and imagine beyond the borders of convention - and how the full scale Russian invasion has affected this generation of youth in Ukraine since. She will be joined by local New Orleans-based activist and healing artist, Katya Chizayeva, who is an organizer of Ukraine Wellness Project and emigrated to the US during her own coming of age.
