In a tour-de-force performance, Yao plays renegade vlogger Sean and his gay identical twin, Ricky, supercharging this exhilarating, damning, and morally essential fable about social media celebrity, cancel culture, and the erosion of human rights. The brothers lead happy-go-lucky lives with their free-thinking single mom until they witness a popular televangelist demonizing homosexuality. Sean posts a scathing video attacking the “holy” man, it goes viral, lands him in jail, and leaves his mom and Ricky to fight an uphill battle for justice. Ricocheting entertainingly between moods and genres, Ken Kwek’s indictment of backward thinking and barbaric laws veers from the deadly serious to the colorfully camp without losing its humanity.
