In Their Own Time is a narrative journey of three women - Srija, Tuhnu, and Jhumur, as they reflect on love, loss, childhood, friendship, and belonging over three years; we never see their faces, as the evolution of their experiences is manifested by an inherently dynamic and increasingly personal kaleidoscope of the city and suburbs of Kolkata.

In the first phase of the film, these women, from different backgrounds and age groups, discuss their everyday lives - their routines, their families, their occupations, and their friends. As the film progresses, they effortlessly shift into ruminating about memories, identity, nostalgia, love, and the future. As we listen to them speak, the city slowly comes alive in the foreground, and the ordinary words of these not-so-ordinary women superimpose into these unrelated scenes and unknown faces. The magic wand of the universality of feelings completes the synergy of voice and images and metamorphoses the impersonal into the deeply personal.

The second phase is shot three years later; and as if to emphasize how life goes on, the three narrators explore where they were before, how they had imagined life to be, how far they have come, and how their relationship with themselves, and with the director has changed over this time. Some dreams have been fulfilled, and some have changed their courses, but the journey continues.

In Their Own Time is made on a budget of 85,100 rupees, 1,037.15 US dollars per Indian currency.
