Will we let that border wall divide us, or can we make it invisible? This film is inspired by the annual Fandango Fronterizo Festival, which unites people on both sides of the Tijuana/San Diego border wall. Fandango at the Wall follows Multi-Grammy Award-winners Arturo O’Farrill and Kabir Sehgal, as they prepare to record a live album of the festival. Before recording, festival organizer Jorge Francisco Castillo journeys through regions still performing traditional son jarocho music, which combines Spanish and African traditions. As they travel, they meet legendary son jarocho musicians and recruit participants for the upcoming festival. Their travels cumulate with the annual celebration at the border wall. The festival takes place simultaneously on both sides of the United States/Mexican border — transforming this wall that divides us into one that unites us. This film reveals a Mexico seldom depicted and "brings a big sledgehammer" to the wall.
