Do we ever really recover from childhood trauma? In Groomed, a man returns to the scene of childhood abuse and walks us through it. Be forewarned: This topic is neither comfortable nor easy. Groomed is a one-act monologue in a traditional theatrical style — almost Shakespearean. It takes place very simply in a classroom. The simple props and camera angles, and the matter-of-fact dialogue make the viewer feel like they are actually in the room and a part of the story. No over-kill or didacticism here. Just a good film accomplishing what it set out to do in an outstanding way — telling the story of child abuse, survival and coping later on in life. Bravo to all involved in making this gem. This film, this insightful man, make the viewer think and feel.
