When her Pakistani grandfather arrives on her doorstep in Chicago, Dua, a talented young dancer, must hide her fascination with Pakistani dance, especially khattak, a classical dance form traditionally looked down upon for women from "respectable backgrounds" to perform. She and her widowed father, an affable American police officer, must navigate a complex cultural path and a carefully guarded family secret. Beyond a family drama, this film takes obvious pride in presenting many sensory details of Pakistani culture.
