What if your city disappeared while you were standing in it? Mayor is a real-life political saga following Musa Hadid, the charismatic Christian mayor of Ramallah, in Palestine. His immediate goals: repave the sidewalks, attract more tourism, and plan the city's Christmas celebrations. His ultimate mission: to end the occupation of Palestine. During his second term, however, Trump moves the US embassy to Jerusalem, and the Israelis continue to bully and intimidate Palestinians by encroaching on the city limits, thus reinforcing the whole idea that Palestine is a territory with no rights; making Ramallah a city that hardly exists at all. This film amuses and devastates in equal measure.
