A young film director returns to Venezuela, inspired to make a film based on his father's life in the Amazon jungle. He casts Father to play himself. What starts as an act of love and ambition — filmmaking to more deeply understand the self, and the other — spirals into a process which confronts Father’s struggles with addiction and his life devoid of his son. EL FATHER PLAYS HIMSELF holds a steady lens to the way the act of cinema unearths, binds, heals and destroys.

Un exiliado director de cine venezolano regresa a su país para hacer una película de ficción basada en su propio, autodestructivo, padre.

Un joven cineasta regresa a la selva amazónica de Venezuela para hacer una película basada en la vida de su padre a quien le otorga el papel de sí mismo. Lo que comienza como un acto de amor y ambición, filmar para comprenderse a uno mismo y al otro de manera más profunda, se convierte en un proceso que muestra la lucha del padre con la adicción y su vida sin su hijo.
