The Dyke Delicious screening series that ran for many years at Chicago Filmmakers makes a welcome come-back for Reeling’s 40th anniversary edition. The four programs in the series are curated by Dyke Delicious founder Sharon Zurek. In this program of touching shorts, characters seek out affirmation and acceptance–at grandma’s birthday party, in mass media, in the stars, at school, and even after death. In GRANDMA, MEET MARY it’s never too late to introduce your partner, even if it disrupts your perfectionist aunt’s party plans. Young Katherine, questioning her sexuality, looks unsuccessfully to film and television for images of who she should be in the animated THIS IS KATHERINE. Two women, a young rural Hoosier and an orbiting astronaut, make contact while worlds apart in STATIC SPACE. A pupil and teacher form a friendship under the unlikeliest of circumstances in INERTIA; and Jackée sneaks into a funeral home to pay last respects to her drag mother, who is being buried as a man against her dying wishes in OVER MY DEAD BODY.
