When his single mother starts seeing a new man, Rodrigo's intensely close relationship with her immediately falls away. Unable to accept this new reality, the teenager lashes out in progressively worse fashion, desperately attempting to regain the intimacy they once shared. Exploring unstable family dynamics, writer/director Rodrigo Ruiz Patterson reflects on loneliness and love in a foreboding coming-of-age narrative rife with implications concerning parent-child boundaries. —Joseph Hernandez
