Twentysomething Ben has issues. Having just broken up with his girlfriend, this bi-boy (Matthew Fifer) is making up for lost time in the beds of eager men. However, that wild abandon could end after sex with Sam (Sheldon D. Brown), the Black son of a preacher man.

Ben is finally coming to terms with his sexuality, with problems that have been repressed since being abused as a child. Sam’s trauma dates back to a hate crime that nearly became fatal. Perhaps their one-night stand could lead to more for both of them.

How autobiographical is the movie? Well, it is Matt Fifer’s debut feature, which he wrote, co-directed and stars in, and he gives himself more sex scenes in the first eight minutes than you’ll find in most feature-length films. The men may be troubled, but they’re easy to relate to. There’s definitely the ring of truth to Cicada.
