"Peterborough-Nogojiwanong Pride” exists to support & celebrate people of all sexual orientations and gender identities; honour and give thanks to those who have come before us and contribute to the resilient spirit and courage of the present struggle for our human rights. Pride Week has been celebrated since 2003 and has grown into a week of over 30 events events in mid-September each year. The 2SLGBTQA+ community is diverse and spans and intersects the full spectrum of race, age, ability, and economic status. Ultimately, Pride events are intended to provide a space for participants to gather, share ideas, speak their minds, support each other, and have fun in a safe and accepting environment.
Peterborough Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) is a faith body which believes every person can experience a divine loving presence and that these experiences transform how we live. We worship and share our lives together weekly, are organized without hierarchy, and are guided by Spirit that gathers us together in unity without erasing our differences. We advocate for and work on: peace, outreach to people in prison, protecting the environment, safe housing for everyone, honoring Canada’s treaties with Indigenous peoples, and other social issues where we believe divinely guided truth, love, and justice can help all people live safely, joyfully, and in right relationship with each other and with Creation.
