Gloriously hand-made, Precarious is a celebration of pre-digital effects cinema and the power of the imagination.

Director Wes Terray takes the magical-realism form by the horns and crafts an utterly unique action/adventure/detective film whose attention to detail, colour and pace is completely enjoyable from start to end.

It’s some time in the 1950s. The film opens with Henry; injured, handcuffed to a bed and surrounded by cops. He’s held in the house of the town doctor whose daughter is curious about the whole situation. In the mail she received a teddy bear, and inside that bear she discovers a walkie-talkie with a mysterious voice on the other end telling her Henry is in serious danger. From there a fantastical tale is told that involves magical gems, untold wealth, hidden passages and thrills aplenty. It’s old school excitement told with wonderful ingenuity, vigour and vibrancy.

One of our favourite independent films of recent years that’s screened at Rev is Dave Made a Maze, a similarly glorious hand-made fantasy. If you liked that stone cold cult hit, this lovely film is for you!
