Poppy Fields follows the life of Cristi, a gendarme trying to navigate his pluralistic identity as a gay man in a macho, hierarchical workplace and increasingly religious society. While his long-distance boyfriend is visiting Bucharest, Cristi is ordered to deescalate a homophobic protest at a local movie theater. The order gives rise to a confrontation between Cristi and his inner demons, exposing to him how his double life affects those he loves most.
