A fitness freak just released from prison with delusions of being the next Mr. Olympia gets a job selling steroids for a maniacal gym owner.
Director Biography - Korstiaan Vandiver
Korstiaan Vandiver's professional journey started in the music industry. An encounter with The Notorious B.I.G. encouraged him to pursue this path as a rapper. Transitioning to management, Vandiver worked with artists such as "T-Boz" and Ludacris. He also took on doing security for artists like Diddy, Lil Wayne, and Baby. However industry violence, most notably a shootout during a Houston concert in 2006, prompted him to leave this line of work.
After facing personal challenges, including a period of homelessness during which he found refuge in a dollar movie theater in Gwinnett County, Vandiver's passion for filmmaking was reignited. He moved to Los Angeles in 2007, quickly securing a writing position on STARZ project "Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand-Up."
His scripts have since landed attachments and interest from actors such as Ryan Gosling, Idris Elba, Nate Parker and even Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali as well as companies Sony/Columbia, Anonymous Content, CAA and WME. Most recently he produced on “Color Book” which was an official selection of the Tribeca Film Festival and won the Austin Film Festival. Although he has directed some award-winning shorts, "Gym Rat" is his feature film directorial debut.
As a BTS and documentary producer for the famed Sundance-winner, "The Birth of a Nation" Kors contributed to script notes for the film. He has produced projects with creatives such as Issa Rae, Omari Hardwick and Armie Hammer. His work has been showcased/purchased by companies such as Fox Searchlight, CBS, HBO, National Geographic, and VH1.
He now serves on the board of the African International Documentary Festival Foundation (AFIDFF), an organization that coordinates specialized workshops for helping at-risk youth, a topic near to Vandiver’s heart owing to his own experiences growing up hustling on the street.
