Director Statement
The Last Light, besides bringing a unique approach and theme to cinema, is a film that raises a global social debate: all over the world, people are being manipulated by convincing discourses and "images," making them believe they have the support of their leaders and those who maintain their fame.
The film depicts a man and his team desecrating the corpse of a young woman to create a collection of photographs that fight against domestic violence, sexism, and other social issues, portraying her as alive and complicit in the act.
The film speaks of manipulation, of how speeches become easy when one knows what the masses want to hear. Getúlio explores the pain and suffering experienced by real people who suffer from the seven sins: sexism, racism, homophobia, domestic violence, neglect of education, climate change, and social inequality. Getúlio becomes a hero... His photographs and speeches cover his bloodstained hands.
