Mary Birchbark is a world-famous Anishinaabe musician, successful and well-known internationally. After years of touring and being pulled in many directions, she decides to step away from that life and return to her roots - back to the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek First Nation in northern Ontario - to rest, recharge, and reconnect with family and land.

Her sister Betty encourages her to re-engage with old friends and the community, helping Mary to begin healing and rediscovering what matters. However, Mary’s fame doesn’t let go so easily. While staying in a remote cabin, she starts hearing strange noises and becomes increasingly paranoid that someone might be following her or watching her. The intrusion of the outside world, her past, and external expectations complicate her efforts to find peace.

As Mary confronts both internal wounds and external pressures, she is forced to navigate what it means to reclaim identity and agency. Over the course of the film, healing begins through connection - with loved ones, her culture, the land, and whatever new life she can build on her own terms.
