Los Angeles, CA; Director Biography - Kevin Alejandro, Leslie Alejandro KEVIN ALEJANDRO PRODUCER/DIRECTOR Having been in the entertainment industry for over 30 years, Kevin Alejandro loves all things filmmaking. This San Antonio, Texas native studied acting at the University of Texas at Austin and then went on to working with the National Theatre of New York before moving full-time to Los Angeles. He quickly found himself starring along some of the finest actors and working with some of the most creative professionals in projects such as Netflix’s Lucifer, HBO’s True Blood, TNT’s Southland, Showtime’s Emmy-nominated Sleeper Cell: American Terror, ABC’s Ugly Betty, CW’s Arrow, and CBS’ Greg Berlanti series The Golden Boy. Kevin won the Imagen Award, which recognizes and encourages the entertainment industry to portray the Latino community in a positive and accurate manner, for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his work in Southland and was nominated in the same category for his work on True Blood. But even with his extensive acting credits, Kevin realized that there were so many stories out there NOT being told. Rather than wait for them to come his way, he decided to make a shift. The move from actor to director/producer was not just an inevitable evolution...it was a necessary one. The more Kevin was on set, the more curious he was about everything filmmaking. He wanted to learn everything and explore the power of filmmaking as a way to tell a story from different perspectives. To tell the stories he wanted to tell, Kevin knew he had to create them. To propel this shift, Kevin graduated from the Warner Bros. Television Directors’ Workshop and the Directors Guild of America Directors’ Orientation program in 2017. Since then, his dramedy short Bedtime Story won Kevin the Best Director prize and the Best of Festival award at the 2018 Hollywood Short Film Festival. The dramedy stars Patrick Fischler as a failed script writer and Tricia Helfer as his agent trying to make him into a best selling author. Bedtime Story also won the Grand Jury Prize at the Mammoth Film Festival. Kevin’s micro-short film The Talk has screened at several film festivals, including Dances with Films, San Antonio, and Catalina Film Festivals. The short film Adult Night, in which Kevin co-directed with Leslie Alejandro, stars himself and Lesley-Ann Brandt and will be making its debut on the 2020 festival circuit. In the television world, with one episode of Lucifer under his directing belt (Season 3, episode 26), Kevin is slated as one of the directors on Season 5 of the series. With the formation of Alejandro Films, Kevin is determined to tell culturally diverse stories in an entertaining way, particularly within the Latin community. He is excited to work with other creatives in the industry who are interested in turning up the volume on not only the Latinx voice, but on all the voices out there that are ready to be heard. LESLIE ALEJANDRO PRODUCER/DIRECTOR Director, producer, filmmaker, and photographer, Leslie Alejandro has spent most of her life in the entertainment industry. Her career as a professional musician started at the age of 15 and continued over the course of two decades. She then shifted her focus to publication as a partner/executive director at a celebrity and fashion digital magazine for seven years. Here she wore many hats - creative/art director, editor, and photo producer. After several years of experience on many sets, Leslie eventually found her passion for being behind the camera. From this, she decided to pursue photography full time. Her work has been featured in Vanity Fair, Variety Magazine, GQ, Men’s Health, Teen Vogue, Women’s Health, The Wrap, Nylon Magazine, etc. Leslie’s existing obsession with film and television and her ability to story-tell through imagery, composition, and stills then led her to discover her passion in filmmaking. Her directing credits include the documentary short about surrogacy She’s Having My Baby, the short film Smile, starring Kevin Alejandro and DB Woodside, and Adult Night, in which she co-directed with Kevin Alejandro, starring Kevin Alejandro and Lesley-Ann Brandt. Leslie has been an integral member of the Human Rights Campaign for more than a decade and actively campaigns and advocates for the inclusion, integration, and visibility of women and people of color "above and below the line" in the entertainment industry. She believes by exposing a variety of culture’s stories and experiences to the world, compassion and connection can be found.
