It was after seven in the evening on November 23, 1980 when a frightening earthquake of magnitude 6.9 hit an area of about 25,000 km2 in southern Italy.

In the epicenter area, dozens of countries will be razed to the ground and the final toll will count almost 3,000 victims, as well as hundreds of thousands of injured and homeless. A terrible event that will have a worldwide impact and will have consequences on national social and political life. But it will be above all the affected territories to be crossed by intense transformations: from the initial destruction, to the long reconstruction of the following decades, up to the repercussions on the lives of entire populations.
