Inherit the Wind (1960) is a powerful, classic fictionalised account of the notorious Scopes Monkey Trial. Written in the 1950’s, it also served as a parable on the chilling effect which the McCarthy witch hunt had on free discussion. It is as relevant now as it was then.

This screening is presented in collaboration with local Humanist groups, and will be preceded by a short talk.

Many humanists mark Darwin’s birthday in tribute to the progress he represents in our scientific understanding of our place in the natural world. Like the film, we are deeply critical of creationism.

East London and South-East London Humanist groups are partners of Humanists UK. We bring non-religious people together and help develop our own views and understanding of the world. We campaign to advance free thinking and freedom of choice and for a fairer society based on compassion and reason
