Concert No. 2: Lethowsow

Contemporary piano songs and images conjure up West Cornwall.

Kelsey’s music is a hotline to landscape and the elements, bonding listeners through a re-kindling of their collective experiences in nature. With a dynamic wide-reaching vocal range, she is a singer who can take you to rare and exhilarating places, creating a world of textures within a song. Kelsey performs on piano, songs often influenced by her background in jazz. She also reflects the beautifully crafted writing of Laura Nyro, Carole King and Kate Bush. Her set gives space for the listener to dream, wide horizon song landscapes are conjured up using shruti box drones and vocal improvisation. The band ‘Lethowsow ‘ features percussionist Greg Dyer (Radio Rio, Descafeinat) and Ben Kypreos (Cahooty) on acoustic bass and vocals. Up and coming pop artist MAY will sing backing vocals. Rob Flint will provide subtle moments of video projection to be live mixed with the music on the night.

Kelsey’s album Lethowsow will be released later in the year on ‘Dimple Discs’. Lethowsow is a Cornish name for the land flooded and lost between Land’s End and Scilly. It means ‘the milky ones’ referring to the white water always present on Seven stones reef.

From 1996 – 2003 Kelsey performed in London with her octet Minnow. She is a regular collaborator with Sean O’Hagan, featuring on numerous High Llamas albums and Sean’s solo releases. She has sung vocals with Liam Noble and Tom Bancroft, and can be heard on Jocelyn Pook’s soundtrack for Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes wide shut.
