MUSICAL OFFERING FEBRUARY:

Louis Couperin | Johann Sebastian Bach

Jack Gonzalez-Harding, harpsichord

Louis Couperin and Johann Sebastian Bach. Two composers who never met and came from vastly different cultural surroundings, yet whose music shares such important common qualities: darkness, light and silence. Jack Gonzalez-Harding offers an exploration of these qualities in the perfect space for this music, Sands Film Music Room.

British conductor and keyboardist Jack Gonzalez-Harding is quickly gaining attention as one of the most promising young artist of his generation, having recently been praised by The Spectator for his ‘brilliant infectious enthusiasm’.Whilst only twenty, Jack has already enjoyed debut engagements with the London Mozart Players and Hallé Orchestra. As an assistant, Jack has worked with Sir Mark Elder/Ryedale Festival and with Jonathan Cohen/Arcangelo. Highlights of the 2023/24 season begin with Jack’s return to conduct the London Mozart Players and his debut with The Epiphoni Consort for Faure’s Requiem at the Barbican’s St. Giles Cripplegate. Deemed an ‘outstandingly gifted musician’ by the BBC TV/Radio presenter and composer Zoé Martlew, Jack has established collaborative relationships with internationally leading soloists such as Nicholas Daniel OBE, Dame Emma Kirkby, Mary Bevan MBE and Fenella Humphreys. Active also as a keyboardist, Jack has enjoyed recent debuts at the Wigmore Hall, Southbank Centre, Barbican Centre, St. Martin-in-the-Fields and St. John’s Smith Square where he directed Bach’s B Minor Mass from the harpsichord. At the piano, this season Jack begins a collaboration with baritone Florian Störtz on Schubert’s Winterreise. At the harpsichord, Jack embarks on a tour of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. Jack began his studies as a junior exhibitioner at the Royal Academy of Music and the Purcell School. He has received mentorship from the Head of Music at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and is currently studying, aided by a full scholarship, for an Artist Masters at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he studies with Carole Cerasi. Independently, Jack studies conducting with John Carewe.
