Riders of the Purple Sage: The Making of a Western Opera:

Opera’s hallowed traditions and America's cowboy culture converge to celebrate the collaborative power of art.

Riders Of The Purple Sage: The Making Of A Western Oprera follows a classically-trained composer as he adapts a dime novel masterpiece into a grand opera. Riders Of The Purple Sage, Zane Grey’s 1912 tale of the wild west flew off bookshelves around the world, helping establish many of the narrative conventions around what would become a uniquely American genre of literature and film.

A century later, composer Craig Bohmler dives into Grey's cabin during a rainstorm and discovers a story with the dimensions of an opera. The challenge evolves with a creative posse of artists, musicians, and singers. Finally Internationally renowned landscape painter Ed Mell agrees build a monumental set. The opera marries musical traditions and consummate stagecraft with matinee heroes.
