March of The Elephants documents the epic journey of a herd of elephants, who leave their homeland in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, China, and move 1,300 kilometers northward for almost a year and half. In capturing their journey, the film also glimpsest the relationship between humans and elephants in Yunnan, China.
As people do their best to guide the elephants along the way, the response they get from these giant creatures in return pushes them to reflect on their role in nature and the importance of protecting wildlife and biodiversity. The film joins the elephants on their northward travel and return, as they cross forests, farms, roads, viaducts, and traverse the boundaries between a nature reserve and human settlements. In doing so, it shows how helping the elephants seek food, water, shelter and survival, people express goodwill and build trust with the animals.
